Natsu is a feral child. He was raised outside of human society, with no human contact for nearly his entire early development, and as such, still has difficulty behaving normally in social situations, and difficulty reacting emotionally appropriate. Additionally, Natsu has serious motion sickness, to the point that any moving transportation, such as cars, trains, bicycles, etc, causes him incapacitating dizziness and nausea.
Natsu must consume fire for energy. Although he also must eat normal food, it is more imperative that he consume fire, to avoid weakness, lethargy and general ill feelings.

Natsu is a mage; he is an individual who innately possesses magical power. In context of his own canon, magic is something which needs to be developed as a skill. A mage learns a specific type/types of magic. Magic is also something which is had in finite amounts; although a mage will always regenerate his or her magical power, a certain amount is used to cast spells, and only so many spells of certain strength can be cast before the magic is temporarily exhausted.
Natsu is trained in two types of magic; Dragon Slayer and Transfiguration.
Transfiguration magic allows Natsu to transfigure the physical shape of an object. It cannot change its behavior and other qualities. Natsu could, for instance, use his magic to give a person freckles, or to turn a red object the color blue. He could make an object larger or smaller. He cannot make an object float, change its tensile strength, or etc. He could transform himself physically into another person (such as Lucy Heartfilia) but would still sound like himself and behave like himself, and have his own abilities.
Dragon Slayer magic is an ancient form of magic created in order to partially transform a human with the abilities of a dragon, in order to allow them to defend against, and to slay, dragons.
Natsu's senses are dragon-like. He possesses sharp vision. He has extra organs in the roof of his mouth and in his ears that allow him to hear much more accutely than normal humans, and to smell extremely keenly. Using his sense of smell, Natsu is able to determine things such as relative physical health and emotional state of another individual. He is an excellent tracker, able to also use a prehensile, lizard-like tongue to help pick up scents coming from a specific direction.
Natsu's physical constitution is dragon-like. He is faster than a normal human being by about twice, and can improve this even further utilizing his fire abilities as propulsion. He is stronger than a normal human, able to break the mast of a ship and use it as a bludgeon at one point. Natsu is more durable than a normal human being, able to withstand crushing damage, and can further this ability be developing a scale-like skin when exhausting large amounts of his magical power.
Natsu's Dragon Slayer magic is Fire Dragon Slayer, which means both that he is immune to heat and flame, and can create it. He would be able to comfortably, even happily, tolerate standing onembers or in a blaze, and isn't damaged by his own or other magical fire. He is able to produce fire from any part of his body, such as hands, feet, elbows, or to cloak himself fully in flame. He is capable of a powerful 'breath' attack, the Dragon's Roar, which allows him to create a massive outpuring of flame from his lungs. Natsu can control the temperature of his flame, from little more than a warm tickle, to an unnatural heat enough to melt metal.
Natsu can consume fire -- and indeed, must. In order for him to not feel lethargic, he needs to remain warm, and to consume fire; normal fire is all that's required, but if Natsu should happen to consume a fire that's magical in origin, he is able to briefly apply its qualities to his own fire. Natsu can also consume magic that is not fire elemental in origin, such as a water or lightning spell, and apply these qualities to his own Dragon Slayer abilities for a period of time. However, if the element is not fire, then doing so causes him to be weakened, ill and exhausted, and can even do physical harm.
